TapNLink Primer NFC-BLE

The TapNLink Primer enables the connection of STM32-based electronic systems to mobile devices (smartphone, tablets, PDAs, etc.) via the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) interface and/or Near Field Communication* (NFC) interface. Using a mobile device as a gateway, the Primer also transfers data from the microcontroller application to a provisioned and pre-configured IoT service environment on the Cloud. From this platform system designers can view the evolution of variables, record and analyze data and export data to other environments. With TapNLink Primer, it takes just minutes for system designers to create their first IoT proofs-of-concept.

The Primer connects to a microcontroller application via 2 of the microcontroller's GPIO using either the SWD (debug) protocol for ARM Cortex-M based microcontrollers, or the proprietary S3P serial protocol. The S3P serial protocol also enables connection to any microcontroller, regardless of its architecture.

In just minutes, system designers configure the Primer with variables to be monitored and access parameters (passwords, read and/or write access, data logging, etc.). Based on their configuration, our IoTize Studio software configures the Primer and provides a sample app that serves as a local user interface for non-intrusively viewing and/or modifying system variables. The app also transforms mobiles into gateways for data transfers to the Cloud.

Physical Characteristics

The TapNLink Primer (PCB dimensions: 35 mm x 25 mm x 6 mm) can be easily integrated into hardware design. It can also be deported to a distance of up to one meter from the target microcontroller.

Security Features

TapNLink Primer offers local security measures that include definition of user profiles (login/password, access rights to specific variables) and encryption of communication channels. It also implements a Near Field Communication (NFC) interface for secure wake up and pairing of the module's and mobile device's Bluetooth interfaces.

Application Support for Mobile Devices

Apps for mobile devices are based on IoTize's Tap Manager app for Android (v4.0.3 or later versions) and iOS (v10) smartphones. Tap Manager handles all of the local wireless interfaces (NFC, BLE, Wi-Fi) on the mobile device, so that system designers don't have to develop this part of their app. Instead, designers focus on the user interface; data to access, access parameters and data representation in the app and on the Cloud. 

Applications can be developed as HTML5/CSS hybrid apps or as native apps.
