TapNPass Near Field Communication

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a short range (proximity) technology, broadcasting only up to 3 cm. TapNPass NFC is a passive tag or “listener” device, which is powered by an active “poller” system such as a smartphone or card reader. The channel is bidirectional and capable of data rates up to 424 kbps. NFC implementations on TapNPass modules are compatible with Android v4.0.3 and later versions.

Unlike other RF technologies, the NFC channel integrated in the target system does not need to emmit continuously. This results in advantages in both power consumption and security. The NFC channel on any TapNPass can be used as the unique channel for communication with the target system, or as a means of waking up and pairing other RF channels that may be required by the use case. For these reasons, NFC is included on all TapNPass modules.

In evironments where many systems are available for connection, NFC facilitates connecting to the desired system. The user simply approaches the smartphone to the NFC marking on the panel that he needs to connect to. The smartphone wakes up the NFC tag interface. Depending how TapNPass is configured, the NFC tag may wake up and pair another RF interface (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.) or it may be used as the principle interface for communication with the target system. This is managed by the smartphone app and the TapNPass, and is completely tranparent for the user.

NFC interoperability

TapNPass NFC implementations are turn-key and qualified. They require no code development. They are implmented uniquely by configuration of the TapNPass module.

To ensure realiability and interoperability, TapNPass modules implement NFC in conformity with standards imposed by NFC Forum, the global body responsible for maintaining, promoting and qualifying NFC devices. More about IoTize at NFC Forum...
